Lee McCleary (Kinross, SCO) needed a tiebreaker to advance to the playoffs, McCleary finished 3-2 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McCleary defeated
Czech Republic's David Sik 7-3, then went on to lose 8-4 against Scotland's Allan Chalmers. McCleary lost 5-2 to Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO) where McCleary responded with a 8-2 win over Scotland's Scott Hamilton. McCleary won 7-6 against Logan Gray (Stirling, SCO) in their final qualifying round match.
 
The berth into the first round of the Edinburgh International playoffs earned McCleary 0.950 world rankings points, moving up 12 spots the World Ranking Standings into 206th place overall with 5.390 total points. McCleary ranks 251st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 0.950 points earned so far this season.
