In their opening game, Sormunen defeated Nicole Reiser (Fargo, ND) 8-7, then went on to lose 8-7 against Norma O'Leary (St. Paul, MN). Sormunen lost 9-5 to Cassie Potter (St. Paul, MN). Sormunen lost 9-6 to Patti Lank (Lewiston, NY) where Sormunen responded with a 11-3 win over Lori Karst (Madison, WI). Sormunen went on to lose 10-9 against Allison Pottinger (Bemidji, MN). Sormunen lost 9-4 to Erika Brown (Madison, WI) where Sormunen responded with a 7-5 win over New York's Chrissy Haase. Sormunen won 7-3 against Wisconsin's Jenna Haag in their final qualifying round match.

Sormunen earned 4.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week 24 of the event schedule, Sormunen did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Sormunen ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
