Corinne Bourquin (Uitikon, SUI) needed tiebreakers to advance to the playoffs, Bourquin finished 2-3 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Bourquin defeated Finland's Ellen Vogt 7-3, then went on to lose 7-2 against Anette Norberg (Karlstad, SWE). Bourquin lost 8-3 to Czech Republic's Linda Klimova where Bourquin responded with a 6-3 win over Hungary's Ildiko Szekeres. Bourquin went on to lose 6-3 against Anna Sidorova (Moscow, RUS) in their final qualifying round match.
