Gray won 9-6 against Graham Shaw (Perth, SCO), then won 9-6 against David Murdoch (Lockerbie, SCO). Gray went on to lose 5-4 against Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO). Gray responded with a 8-5 win over Sandy Reid (Forfar, SCO). Gray went on to lose 5-2 against Hammy McMillan (Stranraer, SCO) in their final qualifying round match.
