Flippo won 9-5 against Seppo Sormunen (Duluth, MN). Flippo went on to lose 9-2 against Illinois's Jeff Wright. Flippo responded with a 12-6 win over California's Justin McBride. Flippo went on to lose 10-5 against Michigan's Chad Roberts. Flippo lost 11-4 to Colorado's Darrick Kizlyk. Flippo lost 11-2 to New Jersey's Ivaylo Petrov in their final qualifying round match.
