Benj Guzman (Seattle, WA) needed a tiebreaker to advance to the playoffs, Guzman finished 5-4 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Guzman lost
10-5 to Ryan Flippo (Anchorage, AK), then responded with a 13-4 win over California's Justin McBride. Guzman went on to lose 8-7 against North Dakota's Ryan Berg. Guzman lost 9-8 to New Jersey's Ivaylo Petrov where Guzman responded with a 9-5 win over Michigan's Chad Roberts. Guzman went on to lose 10-2 against Illinois's Jeff Wright. Guzman responded with a 9-8 win over Colorado's Darrick Kizlyk. Guzman won 10-4 against Seppo Sormunen (Duluth, MN), then won 10-3 against Wisconsin's Stan Vinge in their final qualifying round match.
