Jim Cushnie (Whitby, ON) needed a tiebreaker to advance to the playoffs, Cushnie finished 1-2 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Cushnie lost 8-2 to Bob Turcotte (Scarborough, ON), then responded with a 6-2 win over Steve Szymanski (Guelph, ON).
