Sven Michel (Adelboden, SUI) lost 7-2 to Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) in the Final of the Sun Life Classic, held November 18 - 21, 2011 in Brantford, Ontario. To advance to the championship game, Michel won 6-5 over Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) in the semifinals of the 2011 Sun Life Classic in Brantford, Ontario; and won 8-2 over Greg Balsdon (Kingston, ON) in the quarterfinals.
 
Michel finished 4-0 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Michel defeated Dale Matchett (Bradford, ON) 9-4, then won 6-1 against Edin and 8-2 against Heath McCormick (New York, NY). Michel won 8-2 against Switzerland's Peter De Cruz in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Sun Life Classic, Michel take home 25.000 world rankings points along with the $9,000CDN prize, moving up 10 spots the World Ranking Standings into 25th place overall with 80.808 total points. Michel ranks 9th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 71.635 points earned so far this season.
