Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) lost 5-2 to Kevin Martin (Edmonton, AB) in the Final of the Westcoast Curling Classic, held October 7 - 10, 2011 at the Royal City Curling Club in New Westminster, Canada. To advance to the championship game, McEwen won 6-4 over Carl deConinck Smith (Rosetown, SK) in the semifinals of the 2011 Westcoast Curling Classic in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada; and won 6-0 over Kevin Koe (Edmonton, AB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2011 Westcoast Curling Classic in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada;
 
McEwen finished 5-2 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Bryan Kedziora (Maple Ridge, BC) 8-6, then went on to lose 8-2 against Brent Pierce (New Westminster, BC). McEwen responded with a 8-4 win over Markku Uusipaavalniemi (Helsinki, FIN). McEwen went on to lose 6-3 against Jim Cotter (Vernon, BC). McEwen responded with a 7-1 win over Jason Montgomery (Duncan, BC). McEwen won 6-5 against Brock Virtue (Calgary, AB), then won 6-5 against Steve Petryk (Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Westcoast Curling Classic, McEwen take home 19.710 world rankings points along with the $11,000CDN prize, remaining in 2nd place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 293.030 total points. McEwen ranks 1st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 54.710 points earned so far this season.
