Ferbey finished 5-1 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Ferbey defeated Gerry Adam (Yorkton, SK) 7-4, then went on to lose 5-1 against Brock Virtue (Calgary, AB). Ferbey responded with a 7-1 win over Darrell McKee (Saskatoon, SK). Ferbey won 6-5 against Bruce Korte (Saskatoon, SK), then won 7-1 against Jeff Stoughton (Winnipeg, MB) and 8-6 against Steve Petryk (Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
