Appelman finished 5-2 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Appelman defeated Matthew Blandford (Cold Lake, AB) 6-2, then went on to lose 6-3 against Brock Virtue (Calgary, AB). Appelman responded with a 8-6 win over Switzerland's Christof Schwaller. Appelman went on to lose 4-2 against Brent Bawel (Calgary, AB). Appelman responded with a 6-3 win over Warren Cross (Edmonton, AB). Appelman won 6-2 against Rob Armitage (Red Deer, AB), then won 7-2 against Brad Heidt (Kindersley, SK) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Appelman earned 5.650 world rankings points for their Top 3 finish in the Red Deer Curling Classic.
