Gray finished 3-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gray lost 6-3 to Switzerland's Peter de Cruz, then responded with a 6-1 win over Finland's Aku Kauste. Gray won 1-0 against James Grattan (Oromocto, NB), then won 7-3 against Ritvars Gulbis (Riga, LAT) in their final qualifying round match.
