David Edwards (Aberdeen, SCO) needed a tiebreaker to advance to the playoffs, failed to advance to the playoff round, losing in the tiebreaker round, Edwards finished 2-2 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Edwards defeated Claudio Pescia (St. Gallen, SUI) 8-3, then went on to lose 9-3 against Russia's Aleksandr Kirikov. Edwards responded with a 9-1 win over David Sik (Prague, CZE). Edwards went on to lose 5-4 against Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) in their final qualifying round match.
