David Edwards (Aberdeen, SCO) finished 3-3 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Edwards defeated Alexsey Tselousov (Moscow, RUS) 4-2, then won 4-3 against Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK). Edwards went on to lose 5-0 against Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO). Edwards lost 6-3 to Scotland's Sandy Reid where Edwards responded with a 6-4 win over Switzerland's Pascal Hess. Edwards went on to lose 6-4 against Scotland's Kyle Smith in their final qualifying round match.
