To advance to the championship game, Carruthers won 4-3 over Darrell McKee (Saskatoon, SK) in the semifinals of the 2011 Whites Drug Store Classic in Swan River, Manitoba, Canada; and won 6-5 over Al Schick (Regina, SK) in the quarterfinals. of the 2011 Whites Drug Store Classic in Swan River, Manitoba, Canada;
 
Carruthers finished 4-0 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Carruthers defeated Glen Toews (Swan River, MB) 8-1, then won 6-5 against Claudio Pescia (St. Gallen, SUI) and 5-2 against Rob Fowler (Brandon, MB). Carruthers won 6-2 against McKee in their final qualifying round match.
