To advance to the championship game, Sormunen won 7-3 over Margie Smith (St. Paul, MN) in the semifinals of the 2011 St. Paul Cash Spiel in St. Paul;
 
Sormunen finished 4-1 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sormunen lost 7-3 to Lank, then responded with a 8-3 win over Amy Anderson (St. Paul, MN). Sormunen won 7-5 against Maureen Stolt (St. Paul, MN), then won 8-7 against Alexandra Carlson (St. Paul, MN) and 13-2 against Brigid Ellig (St. Paul, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the St. Paul Cash Spiel, Sormunen take home 1.750 world rankings points along with the $1,819CDN prize, moving up 12 spots the World Ranking Standings into 91st place overall with 8.250 total points. Sormunen ranks 75th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 1.750 points earned so far this season.
