Derek Boe (Regina, SK) finished 2-3 in the 31-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Boe defeated Scott Ramsay (Winnipeg, MB) 8-2, then went on to lose 9-4 against Manitoba's Joey Witherspoon. Boe responded with a 5-0 win over John Shuster (Duluth, MN). Boe went on to lose 8-3 against Rob Van Kommer (Carberry, MB). Boe lost 6-5 to Steve Petryk (Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
