Naomasa Takeda (Kariuzawa, JPN) finished 1-3 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Takeda lost 9-1 to Jeff Stoughton (Winnipeg, MB), droppimg another game, 8-3 to Neil Dangerfield (Victoria, BC) where Takeda responded with a 8-5 win over Wayne Harris (Comox Valley, BC). Takeda went on to lose 6-3 against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
