Koivula lost 9-2 to Joe Scharf (Thunder Bay, NONT) where Koivula responded with a 8-3 win over Mike Assad (Thunder Bay, NONT). Koivula went on to lose 9-3 against Mike Jakubo (Copper Cliff, NONT). Koivula responded with a 11-7 win over Robbie Gordon (Sudbury, NONT). Koivula won 7-4 against David MacInnes (Schumacher, NONT), then won 9-2 against Jeff Currie (Thunder Bay, NONT) in their final qualifying round match.
