Gushue won 10-6 against Scott Manners (Battleford, SK). Gushue went on to lose 6-4 against Terry Odishaw (Moncton, NB). Gushue responded with a 10-5 win over Mike Gaudet (Charlottetown, PEI). Gushue won 7-3 against Robert Desjardins (Chicoutimi, PQ) in their final qualifying round match.

Gushue earned 10.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins.
