Thomas went on to lose 9-1 against Rui Liu (Harbin, CHN). Thomas responded with a 8-1 win over Jamie Boutin (Mannheim, GER) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Kariuzawa International, Thomas take home 7.500 world rankings points, moving up 29 spots the World Ranking Standings into 95th place overall with 19.500 total points. Thomas ranks 105th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 7.500 points earned so far this season.
