Johnston finished 3-1 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Johnston defeated Ontario's Bob Armstrong 7-4, then won 8-1 against Ontario's Brett Dekoning. Johnston went on to lose 7-4 against Ontario's Scott McDonald. Johnston responded with a 5-4 win over Dayna Deruelle (Brampton, ON) in their final qualifying round match.

Johnston earned 1.005 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the Huron ReproGraphics Oil Heritage Classic, moving up 14 spots the World Ranking Standings into 187th place overall with 3.593 total points.
