Nicole Backe (Nanaimo, BC) qualified for the 2012 Vancouver Island Shootout playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 9-4 against Heather Jensen (Airdrie, AB). of the 2012 Vancouver Island Shootout in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada;

Backe finished 3-1 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Backe defeated Penny Shantz (Vernon, BC) 7-3, then won 7-5 against Jensen. Backe went on to lose 10-6 against Ayumi Ogasawara (Kariuzawa, JPN). Backe responded with a 10-4 win over Brandi Tinkler (Victoria, BC) in their final qualifying round match.

Backe earned 0.750 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the Vancouver Island Shootout.
