Aku Kauste (Hyvinkaa, FIN) qualified for the 2012 Edinburgh International playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 6-5 against Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO).

Kauste finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kauste defeated Alexey Tselousov (Moscow, RUS) 6-4, then won 4-3 against David Edwards (Aberdeen, SCO) and 7-2 against John Hamilton (Edinburgh, SCO). Kauste went on to lose 6-4 against Kyle Smith (Perth, SCO). Kauste responded with a 6-3 win over Thomas Loevold (Oslo, NOR) in their final qualifying round match.
