To advance to the championship game, Schlender won 8-0 over Jamie Koe (Yellowknife, NT) in the semifinals of the 2012 Original 16 WCT Bonspiel in Calgary, Alberta; and won 7-4 over Charley Thomas (Calgary, AB) in the quarterfinals.
Schlender finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Schlender defeated Josh Lambden (Calgary, AB) 9-4, then won 7-3 against Jon Rennie (Calgary, AB) and 9-2 against Mike Libbus (Calgary, AB). Schlender went on to lose 8-2 against Matthew Blandford (Calgary, AB). Schlender responded with a 6-0 win over Jamie King (Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the Original 16 WCT Bonspiel, Schlender take home 6.825 world rankings points along with the $3,600CDN prize, moving up 3 spots the World Ranking Standings into 34th place overall with 46.757 total points. Schlender ranks 50th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 14.325 points earned so far this season.
