To advance to the championship game, Whyte won 6-3 over Lisa Johnson (Spruce Grove, AB) in the semifinals of the 2012 Spruce Grove Cashspiel in Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada; and won 5-3 over Teryn Hamilton (Lethbridge, AB) in the quarterfinals.

Whyte finished 2-1 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Whyte defeated Tiffany Game (Edmonton, AB) 7-3, then went on to lose 6-4 against Steuber. Whyte responded with a 4-2 win over Brittany Gregor (Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
