Ewan MacDonald (Perth, SCO) qualified for the 2012 Stirling Invitational playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 3-2 against David Edwards (Aberdeen, SCO). of the 2012 Stirling Invitational in Stirling, Scotland;

MacDonald finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, MacDonald lost 6-5 to Glen Muirhead (Perth, SCO), then responded with a 10-1 win over Scotland's Daryl Russell. MacDonald won 5-3 against Kyle Smith (Perth, SCO), then won 6-3 against Scotland's Stuart Taylor and 6-5 against Mark Neeleman (Zoetemeer, NED) in their final qualifying round match.
