In their opening game, Hutchings defeated Matt Willerton (Edmonton, AB) 7-6, then won 7-4 against Glen Kennedy (Edmonton, AB) and 9-5 against Robert Schlender (Edmonton, AB). Hutchings went on to lose 8-0 against Tom Appelman (Edmonton, AB). Hutchings lost 7-5 to James Pahl (Sherwood Park, AB) where Hutchings responded with a 6-0 win over Randy Guidinger (Spruce Grove, AB). Hutchings won 7-5 against Curtis Harrish (Calmar, AB). Hutchings went on to lose 8-6 against Pahl in their final qualifying round match.
