In their opening game, Young defeated Kyler Kleibrink (Okotoks, AB) 4-2, then went on to lose 7-1 against Scott Smith (Calgary, AB). Young responded with a 6-5 win over Kenton Maschmeyer (Edmonton, AB). Young went on to lose 7-2 against Brendin Serna (Edmonton, AB). Young lost 8-6 to Maschmeyer in their final qualifying round match.
