Michel went on to lose 5-2 against Freiberger. Michel responded with a 4-3 win over Freiberger. Michel won 5-4 against de Cruz, then won 6-3 against Switzerland's Stefan Haesler and 3-2 against Switzerland's Marc Pfister. Michel won 6-2 against Switzerland's Bernhard Werthemann in their final qualifying round match.
