Jeff Wright (Chicago, IL) finished 7-2 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Wright defeated Doug Schaak (Portland, OR) 10-8, then won 10-4 against Chad Roberts (Detroit, MI) and 8-5 against Daryl Horsman (Scottsdale, AZ). Wright won 6-5 against Ivaylo Petrov (Plainfield, NJ), then won 8-4 against Doug Kauffman (Seattle, WA) and 8-3 against Dave Jensen (Bismarck, ND). Wright went on to lose 9-5 against Leo Johnson (Fairbanks, AK). Wright responded with a 7-3 win over Mark Olson (Janesville, WI). Wright went on to lose 8-6 against Mark Willmert (St. Paul, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
