To advance to the championship game, Howard won 4-3 over Jeff Stoughton (Winnipeg, MB) in the semifinals of the 2013 Masters of Curling in Abbotsford, British Columbia; and won 8-4 over Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) in the quarterfinals.
 
Howard finished 4-0 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Howard defeated David Murdoch (Stirling, SCO) 6-5, then won 5-3 against Andrey Drozdov (Moscow, RUS) and 5-2 against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB). Howard won 7-6 against Sven Michel (Adelboden, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Masters of Curling Championship title, Howard earned 40.000 world rankings points along with the $26,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 3 spots the World Ranking Standings into 2nd place overall with 348.530 total points. Howard ranks 5th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 115.000 points earned so far this season.
