Gushue finished 3-2 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gushue defeated William Lyburn (Winnipeg, MB) 6-2, then went on to lose 6-5 against Stoughton. Gushue lost 8-5 to Peter De Cruz (Geneva, SUI) where Gushue responded with a 7-6 win over Martin. Gushue won 9-4 against Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the Canadian Open, Gushue take home 27.000 world rankings points along with the $14,000CDN prize, moving up 1 spots the World Ranking Standings into 6th place overall with 292.605 total points.
