Thurston finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Thurston defeated Lisa Menard (Dauphin, MB) 9-2, then won 8-0 against Terry Ursel (Arden, MB) and 6-1 against Maureen Stolt (St. Paul, MN). Thurston won 8-4 against Karen Fallis (Winnipeg, MB). Thurston went on to lose 8-5 against Colleen Kilgallen (Pinawa, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
