In their opening game, Michel defeated Andrey Drozdov (Moscow, RUS) 5-4, then won 6-1 against Thomas Dufour (Chamonix, FRA) and 8-2 against Marc Pfister (Bern, SUI). Michel won 7-2 against Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) in their final qualifying round match.
