McEwen finished 5-0 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Jason Ginter (Dawson Creek, BC) 5-1, then won 7-2 against Nathan Connolly (Edmonton, AB) and 9-1 against Kerry Moore (Grande Prairie, AB). McEwen won 5-2 against Scott Webb (Peace River, AB), then won 10-2 against Mark Pillsworth (Grande Prairie, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Pomeroy Inn & Suites Prairie Showdown Championship title, McEwen earned 0.000 world rankings points along with the $12,000CDN first prize cheque.
