McEwen finished 5-0 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Jason Ginter (Dawson Creek, BC) 5-1, then won 7-2 against Nathan Connolly (Edmonton, AB) and 9-1 against Kerry Moore (Grande Prairie, AB). McEwen won 5-2 against Scott Webb (Peace River, AB), then won 10-2 against Mark Pillsworth (Grande Prairie, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Pomeroy Inn & Suites Prairie Showdown Championship title, McEwen earned 0.000 world rankings points along with the $12,000CDN first prize cheque. For week 33 of the event schedule, McEwen did not improve upon their best events, remaining at 5th place on the World Ranking Standings with 378.970 total points.
