John Shuster (Duluth, MN) finished 5-4 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Shuster defeated Brady Clark (Seattle, WA) 10-8, then won 6-5 against Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN). Shuster went on to lose 5-3 against Heath McCormick (Duluth, MN). Shuster lost 9-5 to Tyler George (New York, NY) where Shuster responded with a 9-1 win over Alex Leichter (Rochester, NY). Shuster went on to lose 12-6 against Eric Fenson (Bemidji, MN). Shuster responded with a 7-4 win over Paul Pustovar (Duluth, MN). Shuster won 7-2 against Peter Stolt (St. Paul, MN). Shuster went on to lose 7-5 against Craig Brown (Madison, WI) in their final qualifying round match.

Shuster earned 10.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week 30 of the event schedule, Shuster did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Shuster ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
