Smith went on to lose 8-6 against Schwaller. Smith responded with a 10-5 win over Braden Calvert (Winnipeg, CAN). Smith went on to lose 7-6 against Eirik Mjoen (Oslo, NOR). Smith responded with a 6-5 win over Amos Mosaner (Trento, ITA). Smith went on to lose 9-6 against Fredrik Nyman (Harnosand, SWE). Smith responded with a 5-3 win over Sergei Glukhov (Moscow, RUS). Smith won 9-6 against Zhilin Shao (Harbin, CHN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the World Junior Championships, Smith take home 5.000 world rankings points, moving up 9 spots the World Ranking Standings into 63rd place overall with 28.735 total points.
