Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) lost 6-5 to Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) in the Final of the Canadian Open, held December 9 - 14, 2014 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. To advance to the championship game, Laycock won 6-5 over Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB) in the semifinals of the 2014 Canadian Open in Yorkton, Saskatchewan; and won 6-5 over Jim Cotter (Kelowna/Vernon, BC) in the quarterfinals. of the 2014 Canadian Open in Yorkton, Saskatchewan;
 
Laycock finished 3-1 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Laycock defeated Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) 8-5, then went on to lose 8-3 against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB). Laycock responded with a 6-4 win over Glenn Howard (Penetanguishene, ON). Laycock won 6-4 against John Epping (Toronto, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Canadian Open, Laycock take home 27.000 world rankings points along with the $14,000CDN prize, moving up 1 spots the World Ranking Standings into 9th place overall with 208.382 total points. Laycock ranks 9th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 109.232 points earned so far this season.
