In their opening game, McEwen defeated Sven Michel (Adelboden, SUI) 7-5, then won 8-3 against Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB) and 7-5 against Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB). McEwen won 5-1 against Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE), then won 6-4 against Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) in their final qualifying round match.
