Al Gulseth (Fargo, ND) finished 7-2 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gulseth lost 6-2 to Darrick Kizlyk (Colorado Springs, CO), then responded with a 8-6 win over Michael Stefanik (Ballston Spa, NY). Gulseth won 10-4 against Greg Wilson (Vernon Hills, IL), then won 8-5 against Randy Baird (Bemidji, MN). Gulseth went on to lose 6-4 against Brady Clark (Lynnwood, WA). Gulseth responded with a 8-0 win over Stu Cohen (Columbus, OH). Gulseth won 7-2 against Kevin Rutherford (Beaverton, OR), then won 11-8 against Sean Murray (Hartland, WI) and 9-5 against Adam Endicott (San Diego, CA) in their final qualifying round match.
