MacDonald lost 9-4 to Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN) where MacDonald responded with a 10-9 win over Peter de Cruz (Geneve, SUI). MacDonald went on to lose 7-6 against Rasmus Stjerne (Hvidovre, DEN). MacDonald responded with a 8-6 win over Pete Fenson (Bemidji, USA). MacDonald went on to lose 6-5 against Jiri Snitil (Prague, CZE). MacDonald lost 6-4 to Thomas Ulsrud (Snaroen, NOR) where MacDonald responded with a 7-5 win over Evgeniy Arkhipov (Moscow, RUS). MacDonald went on to lose 7-5 against Kevin Koe (Edmonton, CAN). MacDonald lost 10-3 to Johnny Jahr (Hamburg, GER) in their final qualifying round match.

MacDonald earned 6.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 14 spots the World Ranking Standings into 60th place overall with 31.084 total points. MacDonald ranks 63rd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 14.930 points earned so far this season.
