To advance to the championship game, McDonald won 6-1 over Ontario's Cory Heggestad in the semifinals of the 2014 Stroud Sleeman Cash Spiel in Innisfil, Ontario, Canada; and won 7-2 over Nathan Martin (Oshawa, ON) in the quarterfinals. of the 2014 Stroud Sleeman Cash Spiel in Innisfil, Ontario, Canada;
 
McDonald finished 3-1 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McDonald defeated Ontario's Travis Belchior 6-2, then won 8-3 against Dow and 9-1 against Daryl Shane (Waterloo, ON). McDonald went on to lose 9-6 against Gary McCullough (Thornhill, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Stroud Sleeman Cash Spiel, McDonald take home 1.750 world rankings points along with the $1,800CDN prize, moving up 2 spots the World Ranking Standings into 58th place overall with 22.000 total points. McDonald ranks 41st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 9.525 points earned so far this season.
