To advance to the championship game, Laycock won 6-5 over Jeff Stoughton (Winnipeg, MB) in the semifinals of the 2014 Direct Horizontal Drilling Fall Classic in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; and won 6-3 over Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2014 Direct Horizontal Drilling Fall Classic in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada;
 
Laycock finished 3-0 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Laycock defeated Jessi Wilkinson (Edmonton, AB) 8-4, then won 7-4 against Jeff Hartung (Langenburg, SK) and 6-4 against Jamie King (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
