To advance to the championship game, Schlender won 6-4 over Robert Collins (Calgary, AB) in the semifinals of the 2014 Original 16 WCT Bonspiel in Calgary, Alberta; and won 9-5 over Alexey Tselousov (St-Petersburg, RUS) in the quarterfinals.

Schlender responded with a 5-3 win over Thomas Scoffin (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
