In their opening game, Zang defeated Sean O'Connor (Calgary, AB) 6-0, then went on to lose 6-4 against Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE). Zang lost 5-1 to Danny Sherrard (Edmonton, AB) where Zang responded with a 6-2 win over Colin Griffith (Grande Prairie, AB). Zang went on to lose 10-3 against Sherrard in their final qualifying round match.
