To advance to the championship game, Ulsrud won 4-2 over David Murdoch (Stirling, SCO) in the semifinals of the 2016 Mercure Perth Masters in Perth, Scotland; and won 8-2 over Bruce Mouat (Edinburgh, SCO) in the quarterfinals.
Ulsrud finished 4-0 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Ulsrud defeated Ian Parker (Sarnia, ON) 9-4, then won 6-2 against Stuart Taylor (Glasgow, SCO) and 9-7 against Sven Michel (Adelboden, SUI). Ulsrud won 5-1 against Tomi Rantamaki (Hyvinkaa, FIN) in their final qualifying round match.
