Laycock finished 3-2 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Laycock defeated John Epping (Toronto, ON) 6-3, then won 7-1 against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB). Laycock went on to lose 8-6 against David Murdoch (Stirling, SCO). Laycock responded with a 5-4 win over John Shuster (Duluth, USA). Laycock went on to lose 5-4 against Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) in their final qualifying round match.
