Shuster finished 4-0 in the 25-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Shuster defeated Darryl Sobering (Denver, CO) 12-0, then won 5-3 against Korey Dropkin (Blaine, USA) and 8-4 against Minnesota's Josh Bahr. Shuster won 8-2 against John Lilla (St Paul, MN) in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Curl Mesabi Classic Championship title, Shuster earned 29.152 world rankings points along with the $7,656CDN first prize cheque, remaining in 13th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 296.441 total points.
