To advance to the championship game, Johnston won 7-4 over Minnesota's Todd Birr in the semifinals of the 2015 Curl Mesabi Classic in Eveleth, Minnesota, United States; and won 8-1 over Michael Johnson (New Westminster, BC) in the quarterfinals. of the 2015 Curl Mesabi Classic in Eveleth, Minnesota, United States;
 
Johnston finished 4-0 in the 25-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Johnston defeated Jia Liang Zang (Beijing, CHN) 6-3, then won 7-2 against Geoff Goodland (St. Paul, MN) and 6-0 against Al Hackner (Thunder Bay, NONT). Johnston won 10-2 against Minnesota's Mike Farbelow in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Curl Mesabi Classic, Johnston take home 22.905 world rankings points along with the $4,872CDN prize, moving up 83 spots the World Ranking Standings into 110th place overall with 35.025 total points.
